Especially for groups
If you’d like to visit Nijkleaster with a group, we’d be happy to offer a customized program tailored to your needs and preferences. We’ve already hosted a variety of groups and teams: companies, churches, schools, organizations, and clubs—from church councils to youth groups, and from management teams to church choirs.
A Customized Program is based at the Redbadtsjerke in Jorwert. From the church, you can take a walk to visit Westerhûs Monastery.

We are happy to make suggestions
In consultation with you, we will put together a program that invites the group to engage in silence, reflection, and connection. The program for a half-day or full day can include the following components:
. a simple Nijkleaster service
. a playful introduction
. a meditative walk filled with silence, reflection, and connection
. a theme with an in-depth learning activity (see below)
. a presentation about Nijkleaster
. lunch at Café Het Wapen van Baarderadeel
. space for your own agenda, such as vision development
. a guided tour of Westerhûs Monastery
For a Customized Program, we require a minimum group size of 10 people.
Themes for a Tailor-Made Program
We offer a number of themes related to spirituality and engagement with the world that are close to Nijkleaster's heart:
Quietening and settling – catching our breath and finding peace in our busy lives
Living with open hands - Actually, praying is something like living with open hands," writes Henri Nouwen. We are inspired by his words. What is prayer for us and how do faith and spirituality work through in our lives?
Not divided but together - This is the title of a poem by Ahmed Aboutaleb, the former mayor of Rotterdam. A program on how to live in these complex times.
The web of life – A program that nourishes our connection with Mother Earth. We set out with words from an impressive speech by Chief Seattle (1786-1866) that are recited weekly at Westerhûs Monastery.
These themes are also suitable for exploring with young people.

Afternoon program followed by a tour of Westerhûs Monastery
On Saturday afternoon, it is possible to combine a program in Jorwert with a guided tour of Westerhûs Monastery, as in this program:

1:30 p.m. Coffee or tea with kleasterkoeke (traditional Dutch pastry) and introduction
2:00-3:15 p.m. Nijkleasterkuier in the rhythm of silence, reflection, connection
3:15 p.m. Brief wrap-up and departure by car to the Westerhûs
3:30 p.m. Guided tour of Westerhûs Monastery

One-day program

Cost: €400 for this package, including lunch. For groups of 11 or more people €40 extra per person.
