This book Blessed simplicity is about Jesus' eight Beatitudes. These are the opening words of Jesus' first sermon, the Sermon on the Mount, in which he formulates the essence of his faith and the basic principles for a happy, a "blissful" life.

The essays in this book are written by Hinne Wagenaar. They are personal reflections, written
against the background of seven years of pioneering with Nijkleaster, the new monastery place in Jorwert, where new ways for faith and spirituality are sought.

The author sees Nijkleaster as part of a new-monastic movement, which Bonhoeffer was already longing for in 1935: "The time has come to bring people together into a new kind of monasticism, in which a life according to the Sermon on the Mount is central.
