Dear people, a few words of reflection leading to a question as we are used to at Nijkleaster. We try to understand the words, to taste them for our own lives. This week with the words of Psalm 42.
Like a doe yearns for running water, sa't in ree longeret om wetter, we can yearn for the good life: love, connection, trust, peace and justice. Just as a doe yearns for running water, sa't in ree longeret om wetter, so we can yearn for God. And as much as there may be cries that love, connection, trust, peace and justice are non-existent, an illusion. And however much it may be called that God is non-existent, an illusion. Yet I will not let go, for I am too thirsty, my desire is too great. And even if it were an illusion, still....
It has something paradoxical, the logic of believing is not straightforward. When it comes to thirst I like to use the words we did use before at Nijkleaster:
Only the water we give to drink will refresh us.
Only the bread we give to eat will satisfy our hunger.
As a reflection question for today, when was the last time you were truly thirsty, literally? And when it comes to your own spiritual thirst, how would you articulate it? Is it more related to your own inner self or to what is going on in the world?
