The monastic community of Nijkleaster-Westerwert is an open faith community in the Frisian countryside. The church of Jorwert and monastery Westerhûs (a few kilometers from Jorwert) together form the base for our mission.

The words "silence, reflection and connection" make up our triad. They refer to three spiritual exercises: being still, getting time for reflection to finally connect with yourself, with each other, with the earth and with God.

Monastic Church and Monastic Complex

The monastic community consists of people who are committed to the Nijkleaster movement and its New Monastic spirituality. That connection can be made in various ways as described in the Circle of Nijkleaster. Monastery Westerhûs is an important part of the mission of the monastic community. Thus, we are available to anyone who wishes to retire for a weekend, midweek, week or longer and participate in the life at monastery Westerhûs.

There are several committees that support the monastery congregation. The monastery council is the highest decision-making body for monastery congregation and for monastery Westerhûs.
