Newsletter Autumn 2023

Dear people associated with Nijkleaster,

It's been a while since we sent out a newsletter. No, you probably haven't missed any letters, this is just the first newsletter of 2023. By the way, many newsletters still disappear in the spam box (or: the junk mail folder). So it's always a good idea to keep an eye on the website. All newsletters are posted there under the news menu: https://nijkleaster.frl/nieuwsbrief/

That no newsletters have appeared was not due to a lack of news, rather the other way around! In the past year we have worked hard to form the monastic congregation, to complete monastery Westerhรปs, to furnish and inhabit Westerhรปs and to officially open it at Pentecost. And finally to the trial run and receiving the first guests from near and far. The photo shows Tsjits Peanstra's poem 'Hรปs fan stilte - House of silence', the opening poem from her 1968 collection of poems. The poem is dear to us and out of gratitude we presented it at the opening to Henk Kroes, our chairman and building pastor 2012-2023.

Church temperature

We all understand that heating the church hall of the church is not sustainable and also very expensive. We will be even more careful with our heating this season than in previous years. Also on Sunday it will not be very warm in the church. Therefore, please remember warm (under) clothing and shoes with sturdy soles. Of course, our STOOV pillows and fleece blankets are always available as well.

10 years of Kleaster morning!

Every Wednesday, the kleaster morning (9:30 a.m.) with the kleaster walk is offered with a diversity of pastors, kleaster teachers, musicians and guests. Each Wednesday is a surprising pilgrimage of head and heart, of body and soul. This fall, the kleaster morning is celebrating its 10th anniversary! To be exact: on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

Congregational evening Westerwert

On Thursday, November 17, there will be a congregational evening of Westerwert in the converted church of Jellum. On the program is the progress of the process of unification between Westerwert and Nijkleaster. Information will also be shared in words and pictures about the progress of the construction of Kleaster Westerhรปs (Church of Jellum, 19.45)

Kleasterlingen

5 clay students have been preparing to live and work at Westerhรปs since 2019: Reinier Nummerdor and Trees Nummerdor, Wikje de Jong, Sietske Visser and Hinne Wagenaar. They form the group of internal kleasterlingen, sometimes called kleasterlingen-in-the-gate. Since the spring of 2022 we have also been thinking about expanding the group with clay students who live externally, the clay students-outside-the-gate. As of September 1, 12 people have signed up for this.

In 2022-2023, the group of 17 kleasterlings is now preparing together for kleasterlingship. It is planned that they will be officially attached to Nijkleaster community at Pentecost 2023. During the weekend of May 27-28-29, 2023, we hope to take another step in the history of Nijkleaster-Westerwert: the formation of a kleastergommunity. So keep the Pentecost weekend of 2023 clear in your calendar now!

Nijkleaster-Westerhรปs

The appearance of Westerhรปs has changed remarkably in recent months. With the installation of the timber frame of the houses and of the guest rooms, the construction site looks very different. Both outside and inside the farmhouse, the contours of the future are becoming clear. Over the summer, many volunteers worked hard. And that will continue to be needed in the coming months. The volunteers of Nijkleaster-Westerwert are helping with painting, sorting building materials, installing ceilings and cleaning up.

We need more helping hands this fall. So please sign up with one you know or with our coordinator Annet Draaisma(info@nijkleaster.frl or 06-19167455). We expect the farm itself to be completed at the end of 2022. New construction and landscaping of the yard will be completed in the spring of 2023.

In the spring we will also organize "try-out weeks" to try out how and if everything runs well at Westerhรปs. For those try-out weeks we are looking for people and groups who want to stay for free in the guest rooms. During a weekend or mid-week stay, you will think and work with us at Westerhรปs to get everything ready and solve 'teething problems'.
