For the next while, Marian Nijland, regular guest at Nijkleaster and attention giver, suggests a moment of attention every Monday.
We are now three weeks on the road, three weeks without my regular going on Wednesdays to the Nijkleaster morning. I miss it. In the beginning I still regularly visited the church in Jorwert. Now I am looking for other Nijkleaster moments.
Nijkleaster moment: such a word that a while ago spontaneously occurred to me. When I was taking a bath again with my friend Anke ten Brinke with the Klooster magazine. Because for me Nijkleaster is not only silence, reflection, connection, but also a moment to come back to myself. As a stay-at-home mother of a toddler, that is very nice.
Now that I cannot go to church (nor bathe), other forms arise other forms. I share them here, maybe you're looking too, and you'll have something. And if you have additions, share them, and we'll inspire each other.
I have been meditating and praying every day for three weeks. Before I never maintained that habit for that long, now I manage. There are plenty of apps and sites you can use. (Praying on the go, for example, or 30now.co.uk)
I write, for example, in The Inn. This is a writing retelling book by Christine de Vries. With 40 days of beautiful assignments every day based on response to Rumi's poem.
Church services on the Internet sometimes offer inspiration, too. Walking. We cycled to Jorwert yesterday with the beautiful weather, browsed in the mini library next to the cafรฉ and picnicked on the steps of the church. Also a little Nijkleaster feeling. And as for connection, we did something nice this week. My husband baked apple pie twice and we cycled it here and there. This resulted in happy faces and a chat at the front door.
On Easter, I plan to watch a televised retrospective of the 2018 celebration of Nijkleaster (Monday, Easter Monday NPO 2, around 8 a.m.).
New forms, new ways. All week "Behute mich, Gott' has been singing through my head. For He is always there. And the first time that we soon sit together again in the church in Jorwert, how magically beautiful that will be.
