Nijkleaster
The monastery community of Nijkleaster-Westerwert is an open religious community in the Frisian countryside. The church of Jorwert and Klooster Westerhûs (a few kilometers outside Jorwert) together form the base for our mission.
The words "silence, reflection and connection" make up our triad. They refer to three spiritual exercises: being still, getting time for reflection to finally connect with yourself, with each other, with the earth and with God.
Monastery Westerhûs
The monumental farmhouse Westerhûs has been converted into a modern monastery. The Nijkleaster community offers hospitality to join in a retreat in a fixed monastic rhythm of prayer and work, stilling and walking, meeting and fun.
Nijkleaster seeks new paths for faith and spirituality. The church of Jorwert and Klooster Westerhûs together form the base for this quest. Our mission is to create a place where people can retreat individually and/or in groups in peace and quiet, to catch their breath and reflect. At the same time, it aims to be a place where people can meet in liturgy and conversation, silence and walking, fun and recreation.
We are an open monastery with an ecumenical calling and, as such, we want to offer hospitality to people from various churches and traditions. And to every pilgrim, whatever their outlook on life. You are very welcome to join this movement of inner stillness and social renewal. At our activities in Jorwert or for a retreat at Westerhûs Monastery.
Nijkleaster program
Nijkleaster's ambition is to be a "monastery new style. A place for rest, inspiration and community. For silence, contemplation and connection (silence, besinning, ferbining).
